Spanish Word of the Day

inolvidable adjective: unforgettable
  • Many languages create new words by adding to more basic words. English adds -able to ‘forget’ to make ‘forgettable’, and then makes it negative by putting un- in front. Spanish does something similar with in-olvid-able, which derives from olvidar, to forget.
Fue una experiencia inolvidable. It was an unforgettable experience.
  • In the same way, from the verb envidiar, to envy, you can derive envidiable, enviable.
Fue una experiencia inolvidable. It was an unforgettable experience.
Goza de una salud envidiable. She is enviably healthy.
  • What is the adjective you derive from the verb desechar, to dispose of?
    Answer: desechable disposable
Fue una experiencia inolvidable. It was an unforgettable experience.
Goza de una salud envidiable. She is enviably healthy.
Uso lentes desechables. I use disposable lenses.
